  • “In the process of creating a record, it is crucial the artist feels completely taken care of. Mike ensures just that – making sure the artist’s vision comes first, through building a solid relationship with each client he encounters. Regardless whether it’s producing or mixing you’re in need of, you can be sure that Mike will deliver a quality product that will undoubtedly take your project to the next level.”

    Ryan Kenney, Singer/Songwriter
  • “Mike’s ear for sonic integrity is astounding. He doesn’t settle, he doesn’t compromise, and he knows how to make your music come WAY OUT of the speakers. He accomplishes this and more with a kindness that’s rare to find the music business.”

    David Spencer, Producer
  • “Engineers with a lot of skill usually come with a lot of attitude. It is a rare feat to find someone who approaches the art of recording with great humility and an impressive skill set. My man Mike “the Doctor” Proctor is that rare find. If an engineer can keep me from going postal while vocal comping, that is saying something. Ha! Mike’s a true artist behind the board.”

Bryan Simpson, songwriter (Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton, etc)
  • “Mike is dedicated to his craft. In the mixing of my first record “Patchwork Plains,” he was patient and persistent to make the record sound its best. In the end, he helped achieve a record I’m really proud to call my own.”

    Stacy Lantz, Artist/songwriter
  • “Working with Mike has been a pleasure, I would gladly recommend him to anyone serious about making a quality sounding record”

    Charlie Garcia, Producer
  • “Mike Proctor has an amazing ear for a tasteful, powerful mix. He knows just the right touch to get a good tone out of whatever he’s recording.”

    - Callie Cryar of The Vespers
  • “The atmosphere that Mike provided was one of flexible creativity & patience. His calm demeanor & professionalism made my experience recording with him very memorable and desirable. His work as a mixer is as good or better than any I have used in my career and his advanced ability to communicate expedites the process of achieving the desired sound of the session. I will definitely be using Mike again for future projects.”

    Taylor Jones of The Vespers
  • “Mike not only brings professionalism to the table, but also a sense of realism. He quickly learns not only how to get the best takes out of his clients but how to translate the emotion of the takes into the mix as well. By far the best producer/mixer/engineer I’ve worked with yet.”

    Tyler Evanston Moore, Artist/Songwriter
  • “I have worked with Mike for years. He has always impressed me with his engineering skills and professional attitude. I have recommended him to many friends and would do so in the future because he always go above and beyond the call of duty and get the job done right.”

Every step of putting your music on tape is crucial to the process. I aim to make sure that every instrument is recorded with proper EQ and dynamic control where necessary, so while you’re in the control room or listening on headphones, you can already hear everything the way it was meant to be.

One of my favorite steps in the process – taking all the parts and making them one cohesive song. I’ve got many tools in the belt that I’ve built over the years that allow me total flexibility to achieve whatever sonic picture I’m trying to go after. Just listen to the samples on this page and hear for yourself what your project can sound like.

About Me

My name is Mike Proctor. I grew up in Chicago, IL and started playing the piano at age 5 and guitar at 13. I studied through college at Anderson University. I graduated in 2003 with a Bachelors in Music Business. In August of 2004, I went to the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences to study recording engineering and graduated in March of '05. Two days later, I moved to Nashville, TN and began my journey into a recording career. I interned and second engineered at Dark Horse Recording in Franklin, TN and continued studying under the direction of Todd Robbins and Chip Matthews. With those two, I learned the finer aspects of tracking and mixing. I'm looking forward to taking all I've learned and applying it to your project.
